"The only person who is educated is the one who has learned how to learn...and change," said American psychologist Carl Rogers, and educationists' goal is to teach kids how to learn while adapting to the "new normal" now more than ever.I started at the school during one of the most unique and unprecedented periods in history, when the entire world was on lockdown. However, while school gates were closed, the process of teaching and learning was not, and as a result, we, the Asian School's management and staff, are doing our best to bring learning to students' homes and now classrooms. Our motto is to use the three Rs of education as touchstones, namely Reading, Writing, and Arithmetic, and redefine our approach with three new Rs, namely Rethink, Realign, and Redesign.This isn't just fancy verbiage; it's what the teachers are actually doing on a regular basis.We're not all experts, but we're all in this together — you as parents, us as educators, and most importantly, our students.As an adult, I recognise that parents have numerous obstacles and uncertainties as well, but it is the children who suffer the most. Not only do they have to cope with the implications of what their parents may be going through, but they also have to deal with their own internal issues, as the world has turned upside down in a matter of months. Both the school and the parents must assist the children while also gently supervising, monitoring, and encouraging them so that their academics and school life in general can return to normal.Parents and schools must work together to ensure that the children are ultimately victorious. Life is gradually returning to some kind of normalcy, and we hope and pray that the worst is behind us and that we can continue teaching and learning without interruption.
